Firewood
our firewood source
Goonarook firewood is the by-product of the forestry/revegetation project we commenced in November 2004 on land about 10 Kms outside of Castlemaine in north central Victoria.
Since acquiring the 300 acres, we have rolled out both forestry and revegetation plantings via direct seeding – ostensibly sewing a crop of native tree and shrubs local to the Castlemaine area.

the emerging forest
Ultimately the forestry trees are intended to be used for furniture timber.
As at 2020, 200 of our 300 acres are covered in trees. while 40 acres will remain as a forestry plantation, the direct seeded native plantings which cover approximatley 160 acres of the land are here to stay. They have brought so much life back to the land effectively serving as a new housing development for native fauna and flora.
the firewood product
Our firewood comes from the bent and crooked trees from within the forestry planation which need to be removed to give the straight trees light and space.
We pay a local guy to cut the trees down to size, and have used a few friends who needed to burn some pent up covid energy to split the logs into pieces that are much easier to both move and burn.
